WE MOTIVATE STUDENTS: Air Group One A-STEM

NATIONAL GOAL:  To positively influence the imaginations, and career ambitions of America’s young people, A-STEM focuses on engaging and retaining students to encourage their pursuit of educational disciplines critical to America’s future engineering, scientific, and technical missions.

A-STEM is a youth education and motivation program with scheduled sequential topics. Subjects include Aerodynamics, Aerospace Materials, and Space Operations. Students groups are divided into escorted smaller groups that rotate through several learning stations with experienced aerospace instructors and technicians discussing aerodynamics, propulsion, aerospace materials, space operations, communications, and aerospace careers. Students are in direct contact with real aircraft and equipment, with the assistance of qualified pilots/instructors and engineers from various industries, such as GKN Aerospace in El Cajon, California.

The program is organized and executed by Air Group One, and is a synergistic effort by many in the aerospace community of San Diego County. Volunteers from many different specialties have organized for the sake of our nation’s youth, particularly in San Diego and East San Diego County.

Please note: This 9AM-3PM event takes place at Gillespie Field, El Cajon for up to 40 attendees (teachers, parents & chaperons NOT included). To sign up, please contact  John Telles (760)458-4230 or burnernow@gmail.com

WAISD - You can be a Pilot" Careers in Aviation Girl ScoutCamp

The San Diego Women in Aviation Chapter & The Commemorative Air Force Wing are hosting a Girl Scout Camp on Saturday October 19, 2013 from 9am-12pm at Gillespie Field Airport inside the Commemorative Air Force Hanger. This camp will educate girls from 6th-12th grade about the opportunities in the Aviation & Aerospace Industry!

"Go up, up and away as you discover what it’s like to fly an airplane around the world! Step into the boots of commercial, helicopter and military pilots, then put on your aviator sunglasses and slide into the cockpit of a real airplane. Learn what it’s like to be a “Top Gun” flight instructor, flight surgeon or attendant. Avoid a crash landing as you explore air traffic control and airport safety. Whether you want to blast off into space or keep your feet firmly planted on the ground, the sky’s the limit!"

We are looking for helping hands of individuals in the  San Diego  Community as well as the Aviation Industry to help motivate the girls to pursue their dreams & education goals.

Who are we looking for to volunteer?

Tell me more about the Camp:

In a nutshell, the camp will be set up with roughly 5 stations. At each station, the Girl Scouts will learn about ALL of the careers of the industry. (Not only Pilots) . The Girl Scouts will interact with the volunteers by asking questions and gaining knowledge about the industry. (Many girls might not even know women fly planes!) The girls will mainly be interacting with the volunteers on a panel but there are opportunities such as trying on a flight suit, taking tours inside the aircrafts, along with listening to the volunteers talk about how he or she was able to attain their career.

There will be a volunteer meeting for  the" You can Be a Pilot" camp which will be held on

Monday September 23, 2013 at 6pm
