Remembering Pearl Harbor | Commemorative Flyover at 1pm

Remembering Pearl Harbor

Air Group One's SNJ-5 "Sassy" will perform a Commemorative flyover of Fort Rosecrans in Honor of the Past and to Inspire the Future

Overview of the event:

We are celebrating the National Park Service centennial all throughout 2016 and the culminating event for this historic milestone at Cabrillo National Monument will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States entrance into World War II. The theme is life of the home front, honoring the past and inspiring the future. We aim to share with the public how the war affected the daily lives of people living in the United States.

As we look forward to the next 100 years of stewardship, how will we interpret the stories and events of the 21st century in our parks? We invite you to join us for this important event.

The event will feature:

  • Tours of the restored military history bunker Battery Command E by reenactors dressed in period correct attire.
  • A flyover by a WWII era plane, a 1943 SNJ-5, "Sassy.” THE AIRPLANE THAT TRAINED MANY OF OUR AMERICAN AND ALLIED WWII PILOTS!
  • Lady Liberty Car Show, featuring cars from 1940’s and earlier. Vote for the people’s choice award and get your photo taken with classy ladies dressed in the finest 1940’s period dresses.
  • An interpretative exhibit displaying the Medal of Honor awarded to William Cronan in 1906 for his heroic actions during the explosion of the gunboat USS Bennington in 1906. William Cronan went on to serve as a Lieutenant Commander in Hawaii during WWII.
  • Guided Ranger walks to the searchlight bunker and generator room.
  • Presentations by men and women who lived on the home front in San Diego during the war.
  • Ranger programs about what life was like in the United States during the war.
