Gillespie Pilot's Association General Meeting

This is a reminder of the upcoming Gillespie Pilots Association Meeting and will be held at the Gillespie Field Administration/Terminal Building, 1960 Joe Crosson Drive, El Cajon.

Following the GPA meeting at 10:30 a.m., we will be flying kids through our EAA Young Eagles Program. We expect to have about 15 kids flying this month. If you are a pilot, and able to fly some kids, please reply to this email. Thank you in advance for volunteering for this important event!

As always, free coffee and Mary’s Donuts will be served at our meeting. We hope you can make it to this important meeting!

Safe flying!

Gillespie Pilots Association

About GPA

GPA's general membership meetings are typically held the first Saturday of every month at 9:00 a.m. in the Gillespie Field Administration Building, 1960 Joe Crosson Drive, El Cajon, CA 92020.  Refreshments are provided, and meetings usually last about an hour (though hangar talk can go on indefinitely afterwards).

Our general meetings are a good place for you to get to know your fellow Gillespie pilots and to find out what's going on at your airport.

A message from GPA President Rick Fordem

Greetings GPA Members, Gillespie Field Businesses, Airport Staff and FAA Tower Controllers:

It’s once again a favorite holiday season and that means fun, family, friends, vacations, and planning future goals along with developing new friendships.

As your newly elected President of the Gillespie Pilots Association, (how did this happen???), I wish to give a giant ‘THANK YOU’ to our hard working and dedicated past President, Brian Myers. We will miss his strong leadership and I will find it a most difficult task to come close in matching his fine performance. Thank you Brian for serving our Pilots, Users and Businesses here at Gillespie Field for the past four years as our President! You be the man!

Our wonderful and productive Pilots Association would not be where it is today without our past and 2017 awesome V.P. Leslie Day. Wowa, I love her emails that keep us all in line and informed. Thank you Leslie! Thanks also to our past and 2017 dedicated secretary, Jill Geary and the money man Doug Ferry for keeping us legal with the $$, taxes and all that Treasurer stuff. And finally a thank you for stepping up and serving on the 2017 Board of Directors goes to Vern Cagan, Brian Meyers, Tom D’Amico and Allan Bresee. Great additions! Exciting times are coming our way.

I will soon be addressing the Officers and Board on my goals and objectives for GPA in 2017 and future years. The Gillespie Pilots Association is an extremely important group for many reasons and I plan to build on what we have proudly accomplished since the beginning of GPA in 1996. We have come a very long way and I see it
only getting better due to the talented and dedicated membership we have. So stand by, 2017 is going to be productive, fun and SAFE! Please surf our great web page at If you haven’t been on it in a while give it a couple of minutes. AND If not a member, we would love to have you.

That’s it for now. Just wanted to say hi and give thanks. I hope to see you all at our first 2017 meeting on Saturday, January 7th at the Gillespie Field terminal building at 09:00 AM. Until then.........

Have a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and if flying, think Safety.
— Rick Fordem, President GPA

The EAA Ford
Tri-Motor is coming to Gillespie Field!

February 26 - March 1st 2015
Flights Available Every Day

2:00 PM - 5:00PM

Experience the golden age of aviation and take a flight in EAA’s immaculate 1929 Ford Tri-Motor, giving passengers an opportunity to travel back to the early days of commercial flight.

Affectionately dubbed the “Tin Goose” after its distinct all-metal look, the Ford Tri-Motor is commonly known as the first mass-produced airliner from aviation’s formative years. A flight on EAA’s Ford Tri-Motor is a flight back to an era where air travel was considered a luxury.

Climb aboard one of the first mass-produced airliners and step back in time to aviation’s golden age.  A flight on EAA’s Ford Tri-Motor is a flight back to an era where air travel was considered a luxury.

The Ford Tri-Motor is supported by the EAA and this visit is sponsored by EAA Chapter 14, the local San Diego Chapter.

Air Group One will be on hand to support EAA Chapter 14

Air Group One: A-STEM Educational Program

  • San Diego Air & Space Museum Annex (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

NATIONAL GOAL:  To positively influence the imaginations, and career ambitions of America’s young people, A-STEM focuses on engaging and retaining students to encourage their pursuit of educational disciplines critical to America’s future engineering, scientific, and technical missions.

A-STEM is a youth education and motivation program with scheduled sequential topics. Subjects include Aerodynamics, Aerospace Materials, and Space Operations. Students groups are divided into escorted smaller groups that rotate through several learning stations with experienced aerospace instructors and technicians discussing aerodynamics, propulsion, aerospace materials, space operations, communications, and aerospace careers. Students are in direct contact with real aircraft and equipment, with the assistance of qualified pilots/instructors and engineers from various industries, such as GKN Aerospace in El Cajon, California.

The program is organized and executed by Air Group One, and is a synergistic effort by many in the aerospace community of San Diego County. Volunteers from many different specialties have organized for the sake of our nation’s youth, particularly in San Diego and East San Diego County.

Please note: This 9AM-3PM event takes place at Gillespie Field, El Cajon for up to 40 attendees (teachers, parents & chaperons NOT included). To sign up, please contact  John Telles (760)458-4230 or
